The Path That Led Us To The WOMB

It was exactly a year ago today when Cassidy & Jessica drove down to The WOMB Burlington excited to sign the official papers to bring The WOMB to Bruce County.

This past year has been an incredible journey and we are so grateful for all the love and connection we have felt in this commUNITY.

We often get asked WHY we wanted to open The WOMB in Walkerton so we thought we’d share our story.

Cassidy Radic is a Registered Holistic Nutrition Counsellor who was practicing in Owen Sound since 2018. She had always dreamed of opening a WOMB and her desire to do so only grew stronger after experiencing a traumatic birth in 2021. The lack of resources to support moms on their birth journey in Grey Bruce was truly shocking.

Jessica Connor was a elementary school teacher who became a Birth and Postnatal Doula in the Walkerton area. After feeling frustrated by the lack of resources for her clients in the Bruce County area and watching newly postpartum moms driving all over Grey Bruce for support she connected with The WOMB co-founders to inquire about opening a WOMB.

In April of 2023, Lorri Fleming called Cass and said “I think I found the perfect partner for you to open The WOMB with”.. Cass went quiet on the phone as she had only just found out the day prior she was pregnant with her second child.
Cass decided to go ahead and meet Jessica to see if this could be the partner she had been waiting for.

Cass & Jess connected over coffee and were blown away how quickly we became close friends and truly felt like we knew each other our whole lives. When Cass told Jess ‘There is just one small bump in the road.. I am pregnant” Jess did not even flinch — she just replied “AMAZING, we do babies :)”

Friends would say  “Wait you are going to open a business with someone you barely know?” But we couldn’t explain it to others. We joke that sparks flew immediately and we just knew it felt right from that first coffee. The ball started rolling quickly, we went from ‘dating and getting to know one another’ to looking at buildings and manifesting this dream we both saw!

In late August 2023 we signed our building lease and the franchise agreement and renovations began with the goal to open in November before Cassidy’s baby arrived.

We opened the doors November 13th and this beautiful commUNITY welcomed us with open arms. We are so grateful for all the support we received from The Walkerton Hospital and the Grey Bruce Midwives, along with many other integral pieces of the Brockton Community.

In January, Jessica supported Cassidy at the birth of her son. Cass spent ’30 days of rest’ post baby to honour her families heritage and support her mental health as she soaked in this precious newborn she had birthed only months after ‘birthing the womb’.

The WOMB has become our second homes and we love connecting and supporting others on their journeys through conscious conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.. We thank each and every practitioner that has joined in on this vision and mission and we look forward to the many more who join us along the way.

Thank you for being here. We look forward to many years ahead of serving our commUNITY.
